“I thought I was a good teacher, but now I know what good teaching really looks like.”
To kick off the New Year, we took a new approach to our Powerful Teaching and Learning conferences.
In the spirit of professional learning communities, we focused on less presentation and more
interaction.
Over the two days, teachers, administrators and coaches had the opportunity to customize their
experience by choosing individual breakout sessions led by experienced BERC Associates. Each
session offered something different and unique while guiding participants through the process of
implementing Powerful Teaching and Learning into their classroom practice and professional
learning community.
Here’s the word from some attendees…
“I like the straightforwardness of the Protocol. This is what I have been looking for.
Thanks!”
“The concept of reflection and common language as powerful tools for enhancing teaching and
learning is what I liked best about this conference.”
“Informative and inspiring!”
“I feel I understand more about the Protocol… the common language and understandings.”
One of the highlights of the conference was the story of success from our friends at Eisenhower
High School (Ike) in Yakima, Washington. Through both a panel discussion and a breakout session,
our guests learned of the success Ike has experienced since working with The BERC Group and how
they orchestrated organization-wide change. We also premiered our new video series: Stories of
Success – The Turnaround of Eisenhower High School. Participants loved how inspirational and
exciting it was to see the transformation in action through the video presentation and hear
about it from the Ike staff themselves. We are truly thankful for having such a wonderful
relationship with such an amazing school!
