STAR FRAMEWORK
A framework for self-development
The STAR Framework for Powerful Teaching and Learning introduces a common language around
Powerful Teaching and Learning. The STAR Framework is designed with five Essential Components —
Skills, Knowledge, Thinking, Application and Relationships. Each Essential Component possesses
three separate Indicators that define the Component. There are multiple Strategies to achieve
an Indicator. The STAR Framework incorporates 95 of the most common Strategies The BERC Group
employees have witnessed.
When defining a basic understanding of Powerful Teaching and Learning, education professionals
begin with the STAR Framework to identify elements of Powerful Teaching and Learning which is
currently present in their practices, and which elements they wish to incorporate. The STAR
